October Wine Dinner

OCTOBER WINE DINNER

We head to Domaine Langlois-Chateau in the Loire Valley of central France for our upcoming October wine dinner.   Claire Scott-Gall will present five wines from the estate with food pairings courtesy of Julien and Christophe in the Cigalon kitchen.

Quality grapes, diverse 'tuffeau' limestone soils and a mild, oceanic climate all combine at Langlois-Chateau's UNESCO Heritage site to produce top-quality and elegant wines known for their distinctive qualities and taste.  We'll visit the whole estate, tasting wines from each of the three vineyards based at Saumur, Saumur-Champigny and Sancerre.

Our menu pays homage to the Loire, featuring local white beans 'Mogettes de Vendée' in our first course, cooked together with mussels and samphire from the coast.  Roasted plaice comes with local potatoes and a Beurre Nantais using Noirmoutier seaweed.  It's the beginning of the game season in France, and autumnal girolles and pear accompany roasted pigeon breast - a delicious pairing enhanced by the fruity finish of the Saumur Champigny.  For dessert we're baking our own fouace - a local airy bread (a bit similar to brioche) containing sticky, cooked figs -and serving it with a spot of Pouligny-Saint-Pierre goats' cheese.  A real treat!
