Tenuta Masciarelli : A gem in Abruzzo
Here is the time to stop in Italy for the month of October, in the idyllic region of Abruzzo.
For years, this beautiful mountainous land, located in central Italy along the Adriatic sea and blessed with abundance of sun and fantastic soils packed nutrients, had wallowed in mediocrity as scores of producers were clearly taking advantage of what was given to them.
Gianni Masciarelli has been among the shining beacons of Abruzzo,
Along with his inspiration, he proved to the rest of the world, through hard work, low yield, and a desire to be the best, that Abruzzo ,the Montepulciano and the Trebbiano grapes could produce world-class wines.
In 1984, he launched his Montepulciano d’Abruzzo « Villa Gemma », a new benchmark in quality for the appellation.
In 1991, he released the first vintage of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo « Marina Cvetic », named after his wife, a wine that set a new standard for ‘modern’ expressions of the grape variety.
Gianni Masciarelli died in 2008, Following this tragedy, his wife Marina has doubled her efforts in order to preserve and improve the level of excellence year after year.
Today, their limited production wines have reached an exalted, cult status and were lauded by critics, providing the true potential of this area,
For the occasion, Chef has created a menu around typical ingredients from Abruzzo region, such as Pettole pasta, Porchetta or Guanciale. A magnificent combination of flavours.
